What
do we mean by “Catholic identity” in relation
to a college or university? |
A
message from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
"What
We Hold in Trust" is an executive seminar to help trustees
of Catholic colleges and universities learn about specific Catholic
issues important for the fulfillment of their responsibilities as
trustees.
This
seminar is designed and hosted by the Institute for Church Life
at Notre Dame, which is under the leadership of Prof. John Cavadini,
Chair of Theology. The "We Hold in Trust Seminar" enjoys
the endorsement and participation of three supporting Catholic institutions:
Franciscan College at Steubenville, Neumann College, and Villanova
University.
Presenters
in the seminar acknowledge the many different ways for Catholic
colleges and universities to be Catholic. The seminar suggests ways
for trustees to fulfill their fiduciary responsibility without intervening
in administrative issues. The seminar presents a broad framework,
but its focus on reasonable suggestions that apply to a variety
of institutions, small, medium, and large. Without losing sight
of the broad picture, the seminar suggests practical ways for trustees
to promote Catholic identity, mission, and character in their institution.
