Health Care Resource Sheet

The following list of health care resources was prepared for graduate students during the summer of 1993 by Laura Grimes (PhD HC), and updated by Tom Ryan (PhD HC) in 1996.

The Graduate School has a fund that will pay up to $500 per family for medical services until the fund is exhausted. Application required.

Don't be fooled by their brochure - the policy is not only for "domestic undergrads and non-degree seeking grads," but for degree-seeking grads as well! University Counseling Center

Low-cost individual counseling and various support groups: both students and family members are eligible. Same building as University Health Center, third floor.

Office for Students with Disabilities

Students with learning disabilities, A.D.D., visual or hearing impairments, or temporary or permanent mobility impairments have access to a variety of services from the University of Notre Dame.

Natural Family Planning of St. Joseph County

Classes for married and engaged couples in safe, effective family planning based on fertility awareness. May be used to avoid or help achieve pregnancy. Fee will be waived or reduced in cases of financial need. 426 N. Notre Dame Ave., SB.


Medicaid, Indiana Family and Social Services

Federal health insurance program for children and qualifying pregnant mothers. Pregnancy coverage provides all prenatal and delivery expenses; infant/child coverage provides full health care for children up to five years old. AFDC and foodstamps also available here. 701 Chapin St., SB.

Consumer Information Center

A site with "full text versions of hundreds of the best federal consumer publications available." The vast collection is searchable or you can browse through a number of worthwhile categories, including cars, health, housing, small business and employment.


The Consumer Product Safety Commission

The independent Federal regulatory agency that provides reviews of products you may be planning to buy.
 
 


Healthy Weight

Weight management resources, including a body mass index calculator.
 


HIV InSite

Information on treatment, policy, research, epidemiology, and prevention from the University of California, San Francisco.


Information and Referral Resource Network

Lists agencies throughout the United States that provide a wide variety of human services to the public.


La Leche League

Free educational meetings and supportive phone counseling for nursing mothers.


Medsite Navigator

An online guide to digital science and medicine.


Muscle and Fitness

Not just muscle, not just fitness. Both. Includes audio clips of a celebrity interview, features on training, and nutrition, and muscle-aneous (their word) other things.
