Dear Student:
This is the final mailing you will receive from the First Year of Studies this summer. Please read it closely.
- Beginning August 1 you can find out who your academic advisor for the coming year will be by going to the First Year of Studies Tab in insideND.
- Beginning August 1 your schedule will be available on the web at insideND . You will find it under the Student tab, then Student Services, then Class Schedule.
Using the information on your Course Selection Form, your high school record and perhaps a personal exchange with you, your advisor has built your schedule. Please review it carefully and refer to the link to instructions on “Reading Your Schedule.” No changes can be made until August 27th when you will be able to meet with your advisor. If you have changed your mind about your intended program or courses (or if have other concerns about your schedule), pleasedo not call or email your advisor now. Appropriate changes can be made on August 27th.
- You have already received your ndID. This is your nine-digit “student ID number.” This number will appear on your student identification card. You should also record it in a secure place in case your card is misplaced or lost.
- You should have already received your NetID. This ID is generated by the Office of Information Technologies and is used along with your password for access to University electronic services. Some offices will accept the NetID as an identifier in place of the ndID.
- You will note in the Orientation Program that on Monday morning, August 27th, there will be mandatory “Small group discussions with faculty on academic life at Notre Dame.” You can find your small group information by going to the insideND portal (http://inside.nd.edu). Please click on the First Year of Studies tab.
There are seven (7) additional items included in this mailing. Each is described at the end of this letter.
We look forward to seeing you and your parents at the Official Orientation Program in the Joyce Center at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25th.
Sincerely,

(The Rev.) Hugh R. Page, Jr., DMin, PhD
Dean, First Year of Studies

You will find all survey materials inside the pre-paid Institutional Research envelope that you will receive in the mail. The information you furnish on the 2007 CIRP Freshman Survey is part of a national study of higher education conducted by the American Council on Education and the University of California at Los Angeles. These studies are designed to help improve the quality of college education. Results of your participation will also be directly beneficial to Notre Dame since we will receive complete tabulations of your responses to compare with the responses of students nationally. We ask for your name and home address so that the researchers at UCLA can contact you at some later date for a follow-up study. We would like you to use your ndID Number (provided in the cover letter of this mailing) so we can merge your responses with other campus data to support our institutional research program. Of course, your responses will be used only for research purposes and will be kept in the strictest confidence.
