The University of Notre Dame sponsored and hosted a Local FLL Tournament on Sunday, December 2, 2001


Results of the Notre Dame FLL Tournament

31 teams competed in this tournament which was held in the Stepan Center on the Notre Dame campus.

FIRST LEGO League Awards
2001: Arctic Impact

 

The Director's Award - is the most prestigious of the awards; presented to the team best representing the true meaning of FLL and FIRST in its enthusiasm and inspiration to others. This team carries the honor of serving as a role model for FIRST and the FLL program in demonstrating respect, encouragement, and continued gracious professionalism in the heat of competition, both in and out of the arena.
This award went to
RATS- Robotics and Technology Students, team #1060, from Warsaw.

 

Team Performance Awards

Leadership Award - is presented to the team that best exemplifies the meaning of teamwork. This team will exhibit the qualities that are present when a team is well coached and focused on task specific activities during the tournament day.
This award went to
The Avalanche, team #795 from Granger.

 

Hypothesis Presentation Award - is presented to the team whose presentation of research and conclusion best reflect an in-depth understanding of the various scientific disciplines and issues involved with the Challenge as well as creativity in determining a "solution" or "answer" to the question posed.
This award went to
Next Generation Artificial Intelligence, team #1145, from Ft. Wayne.

 

Team Spirit Award - is presented to the team best demonstrating the spirit of FIRST by extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit both within their own team and in their support and encouragement of fellow teams.
This award went to
The Super Girls, team #1648, from Elkhart.

 

Against All Odds Award - is presented to the team overcoming incredible odds of an unforeseen nature, out of sheer determination to improvise, adapt, and recover.
This award went to
Da Lego Ruff Ryders II, team #1018, from Schereville.

 

Technical Awards

Technical Interview Award - is presented to the team best demonstrating their understanding and contribution to their team's robot's construction, working mechanics, strategic design, program and unique robot attributes.
This award went to
13 Below Zero, team #1650, from Elkhart.

 

Robust Design Award - is presented to the team whose understanding and application of sound mechanical principles produces the most solid, predictable, and dependable design.
This award went to
Righteous II, team #1339, from Mishawaka.

 

Programming Design Award - is presented to the team best demonstrating an in-depth understanding of sound programming principles and applications for unique or exceptional execution of the Challenge Missions.
This award went to the
Ice Dragons, team #1138 from Granger/Elkhart.

 

Creativity Award - is presented to the team best demonstrating its ability to use a creative design, component, or unique strategy of play for the most original approach to solving the Challenge Missions.
This award went to the
Ice Breakers, team #795 from Granger.

 

Individual Tournament Awards

Judges' Award - is an open-ended award determined the day of the Tournament Event by the Official Judging Panel. There are no specific criteria for this award as each judging panel is looking for a one-of-a-kind, inspirational story which can change from Tournament to Tournament. Teams need only to share their experience with the judges for consideration for this award.
This award went to the
Super Girls, team #1648, from Elkhart.

 

Robot Performance Awards

2nd Place Performance Award - is presented to the team whose robot achieved the second highest score on the playing field at the Tournament.
This award went to the
Elm Road Eagles, team #183, from Mishawaka.

 

1st Place Performance Award - is presented to the team whose robot achieved the highest score on the playing field at the Tournament .
This award went to the
RighteousRobots, team #416, from Mishawaka.
