Study Abroad Scholarship Resources

Country Specific Scholarship/Grant Programs:

• Freeman-Asia Award is specifically for students who would like to study in Asia.
• German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers Undergraduate Awards to highly qualified undergraduate students for study abroad, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany.  
• Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan for students who would like to study in Japan.
• Monbukagakusho Scholarships for students who would like to study in Japan.
• Dorot Foundation - Dorot Fellowship in Israel, for students interested semantic studies in Israel.
• Marshall Scholarships for students studying in the UK.

Non-Specific Scholarship/Grant Programs:

• John J. and Patricia L. FitzGerald Scholarship awarded by the Notre Dame Office of International Studies to a Notre Dame student typically participating in the Angers, France program.
• Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship enables students who have limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide.
• National Security Education Program - Boren Awards for International Study is a U.S. Government program to promote study in certain non-western countries. The program involves a national competition, and UR students have won scholarships in recent years.
• Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship is a long-standing scholarship program for study abroad. Students apply through the local Rotary club. Application deadlines are extremely early, so this requires advanced planning.
• Council on International Educational Exchange offers scholarships and grants, including the Bowman Scholarship, which is for minority students. These are only for students who are applying to participate in a study abroad program sponsored by CIEE.
• Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) offers scholarships for students who are applying to IES programs.
• Golden Key International Honor Society, members may apply for a study abroad scholarship offered by the society. 
• National Society of Collegiate Scholars, members may apply for special scholarships through this organization.
• National Italian American Foundation, scholarships designed for students of Italian American heritage.
• Fulbright Grant Program offers scholarships for students wishing to study abroad.
• Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants offers grants for students wishing to study abroad.

• Institute of International Education sponsors a variety of scholarship programs in addition to the Gilman Scholarships, the National Security Education Program and the Freeman Grant.
