Special Circumstances
The Office of Financial Aid is committed to a thorough and personal review of each family's individual circumstances as the basis of all financial aid awards.
We recognize that family circumstances may change significantly or unexpectedly and may affect a family's ability to contribute toward educational expenses.
Requesting a review of a financial aid award requires a family to complete the Special Circumstances Form. Submission of a Special Circumstances Form does not guarantee an adjustment or increase to your financial aid award.
The review of your Special Circumstances Form will be completed by a committee. Written notification regarding the outcome of the review is typically sent within 10 to 14 business days of the receipt of the request; additional processing time may be needed if more information is required. During peak times for financial aid application review (first-time and renewal), additional delays in processing should be expected.
If additional financial assistance is offered, the student will receive a revised Financial Aid Award Letter. If additional financial assistance is not offered, the parent(s) will receive communication via email or regular mail.
Special Circumstances do not include the following:
- Matching a financial aid offer from other universities or colleges
- Student or parent(s) who does not wish to borrow to cover educational expenses
- Parent(s) refusal to contribute to educational expenses
- Parent(s) payment of student loans for older sibling
- Expenses such as credit card debt, wedding expenses, sports, enrichment activities, etc.
