Student Employment Policies
I. Eligibility
The Office of Financial Aid will determine employment eligibility.
II Requirements
A. Student appointments are for a maximum of one academic year and
automatically terminate at the end of that year. If a student is to
be reappointed for a subsequent period, a new financial aid application
is required and new forms, as described under the following section
on Procedures, must be submitted.
B. Student employment eligibility averages 11 hours per week; positions
may range, however, from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 20 hours per
week. (Please note that if a student has been given eligibility for
the maximum of 20 hours, the combination of all the jobs the student
is holding cannot exceed 20 hours.)
C. A position description is required for undergraduate students
who are paid above $8.00/hour and for graduate students who are paid
above $10.00/hour.
D. No student shall be placed in a department where he/she would
be under the direct or indirect supervision of a parent
or relative.
E. Students are not permitted to work during their scheduled class
times.
III. Employment
A. Hourly: Most student employees are paid on an hourly basis
whereby a student receives a paycheck which reflects the number of
hours worked times the appropriate wage rate. The number of hours
per week a student is eligible to work is determined by the Office
of Financial Aid and communicated to the employing department via
the Authorization Form (or by memo if prior to the beginning of the
academic year).
B. Sporadic or Per Event: Occasionally students are required
to perform tasks on a sporadic rather than a weekly basis. The student
should be compensated according to hourly standards via the Student
Personnel Action Form (PAF).
