Q: How do I apply for Financial
Aid?
A: By filing the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a student is considered for federal loan
assistance administered by the Office of Financial Aid (students are
encouraged to complete the FAFSA by February 28th each year).
Academic fellowships, assistantships,
and scholarships are administered by the individual academic departments.
Students interested in these aid opportunities should contact MNA
directly.
Q: How will the receipt of
an MNA or outside scholarship/grant affect my financial aid package?
A: The receipt of additional outside
scholarships/grants not listed on the Award Letter may result in an
adjustment to your financial aid.
As a guide, if a student receives a
scholarship/grant beyond that which is noted on the Financial Aid
Award Letter, the financial aid award may be revised by adjusting
other assistance in the following order:
o Private Loans
o Federal Direct Loans
Q: Is an annual financial aid application required?
A: Yes, all financial aid awards are
reviewed on an annual basis. Financial aid administered by the Office
of Financial Aid is based upon the timely completion of the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), evaluation of financial need, maintaining
the Standards of Progress as outlined in the du Lac, and availability
of resources. A final commitment of funds is not made until all information
requested by the Office of Financial Aid has been received and reviewed.
Q. Will my student loans remain
in deferment while I am enrolled in the MNA Program?
A: If you are registered and enrolled
at the University for at least 3 credit hours (half-time) during the
fall semester and at least 3 credit hours (half-time) during the spring
semester you are eligible for in-school deferment on your student
loans.
Repayment of student loans begins six
months after the student ceases to be enrolled on at least a half-time
basis. Thus, students who enroll only for the summer terms will enter
repayment prior to completing the program.
