Applying for 2008/2009
Federal Financial Aid
Students wishing to apply for federal student aid at the University
of Notre Dame for the 2008/2009 school year are first advised to obtain
their U.S. Department of Education PIN at pin.ed.gov. The PIN serves
as an electronic signature for Federal financial aid and provides
access to Federal financial aid records.
Once the PIN is obtained, complete the 2008/2009 Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA. Notre Dame's
Federal School Code is 001840.
To obtain your Department of Education PIN, click here.
To fill out the FAFSA application, click here.
In addition to the FAFSA, students must be prepared to submit, directly
to the Office of Financial Aid, a signed copy of their 2007 year federal
income tax return.
Priority processing and aid consideration is given to those students
who apply for financial aid by our annual February 28th deadline.
In order to be eligible for federal student assistance, the student
must be either a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States
with a valid Social Security Number. In general, students must be
classified as degree seeking to participate in the federal aid programs
and be enrolled on a least a half-time basis. Additionally, students
may not owe a refund on a federal student grant, nor be in default
on a federal student loan.
For those students who apply for financial assistance, the Office
of Financial Aid will provide a Financial Aid Award Letter outlining
the student's eligibility for financial assistance. Students are asked
to notify the Office of Financial Aid of the receipt of any financial
assistance beyond that outlined on the Award Letter.
