Planning vs. Strategic Planning

PLANNING:

Analytical process which involves an assessment of the future, the determination of desired objectives in the context of that future, the development of alternative courses of action to achieve such objectives, and the selection of a course, or courses, of action from among those alternatives.

Robert D. Stueart and Barbara B. Moran, Library and Information Center Management, 4th ed. (Englewood, CO:  Libraries Unlimited, 1993):  29.

STRATEGIC PLANNING:

Strategic planning differs from other forms of planning in that it deliberately attempts to concentrate resources in those areas that can make a substantial difference in future performance and capability.
